I especially need help with proteins!I'm a college student who is always looking for easy cheap recipes, what are yours?
It's called a ';Two-Way'; or ';Three-Way'; It's easy to make and really good.
Get a package or two (depending on how many ppl you're serving) of Skyline Chili (you could use Gold Star or Wolf brand chili but Skyline is the leanest and best for this recipe) at the grocery store in the frozen foods section. Chop up some onions and/or peppers and whatever else you like on your chili. Boil some spaghetti noodles, heat up the chili according to the instructions on the box, then serve the noodles, top it of w/ the chili, add toppings and serve. Good stuff and a good hearty meal.I'm a college student who is always looking for easy cheap recipes, what are yours?

1 can of cream of mushroom soup heat trough serve over toast or garlic bread
The following recipes make enough for leftovers so all you have to do later in the week is reheat your meals. Other things you can make that are inexpensive and will make several meals are spaghetti, chili, stew and soups - especially good if you have a slow cooker/crock pot.
My partner likes it when I make him cherry glazed chicken breasts, smashed potatoes and a veggie.
Cherry glazed chicken breasts:
1 can cherry pie filling
4-6 boneless chicken breasts
Heat oven to 350 degrees F. Place the chicken breasts in a glass baking pan that has been sprayed with a non-stick cooking spray like Pam. Spoon just enough of the cherry pie filling over the chicken to cover lightly. Place pan into oven and cook for 1 hour and 15 minutes spreading more of the pie filling over the chicken every 15 minutes.
This is very easy and you get a nice moist chicken breast. This also works for Cornish game hens.
Meatloaf is one of my favorite recipes - served with mashed potatoes and whole green beans or steamed baby carrots.
Meatloaf
3 pounds ground beef
3 large eggs
1/2 to 3/4 cup Italian style bread crumbs
1 packet Lipton's Onion or Beefy Onion Soup Mix
1 can sliced mushrooms - drained
1/2 cup sliced black olives
2 tablespoons BBQ sauce
1 tablespoon A-1 sauce
1/2 cup salsa
1/2 cup shredded cheese - I use a combination of Cheddar, Italian Blend and Pepper-Jack cheeses or whatever I have on hand
Mix all ingredients, form into a loaf in a loaf pan, bake at 350 degrees F for 1 1/2 hours.

The biggest problem I see with the recipes posted is that they use a few specialty ingredients, things you might use once but never again: this can get expensive! They also use CANNED food. I know we're in college, but let's not act like beasts out of the jungle. Canned food is high in sodium, low in nutrition, and usually tastes like grime.
You want a recipe that's cheap? Easy? Filling? Uses normal every-day ingredients in a fresh way? You're looking at a stew! From one fellow college student to another:
Super Easy Stick to Your Belly Chicken Stew:
Half a red onion, diced (%26lt; $1)
Two cloves of garlic, minced small (%26lt; $1)
5 or 6 pieces of chicken (I buy six pounds of legs for $5)
One jar of marinara sauce (look for low sodium) ($2)
Water
4 or 5 carrots, chopped ($1)
1 cup of peas (or more if you like it; $1)
Two small potatoes, cut into fourths (optional; %26lt; $1)
Get a pot! Splash in some olive oil! Throw in your diced onion and move it until soft (about 6 minutes). Throw in your garlic for about a minute, but not any longer or else the flavor starts to turn bitter.
Put in your chicken. After two minutes, flip it. You just want it to slightly cook the outside on all sides, so that you can see only a little pink. Take chicken out and put on a plate. Add your marinara sauce and some water, at least enough to cover the chicken but also two or three cups more, so you have plenty of juice left afterwards.
Bring the mix to a medium boil. Once boiling, add chicken back in. Let cook uncovered for twenty minutes then add the chopped potato. Fifteen minutes later, add your carrots. Ten minutes later, take the pot off the heat and throw in your peas and stir them around. Stir the stew occasionally during the cooking process.
A cup of rice in a deep bowl. Cover it with stew sauce until you see it start to float up, with the rice covered in peas and carrots and potatoes. Now add a piece or two of chicken.
God, it's so delicious. Easy and cheap, too: you now have (including the other half of the onion you didn't use and the tons of chicken left over, as well as the extra peas and carrots) two weeks worth of food, for $10! You can throw in some hot sauce or cayenne pepper to kick up the flavor. Enjoy!
though most people may not like this one I love it. Take a fillet of salmon and some mixed veggies and basmatti rice, put all in a elec. skillet and and two and a half cups fo water , 300 degs. for 30 mins or so watch carefully. season to taste.
spaghetti
beans on toast
heat some beans
make some toast
put beans on top of toast
luxury version: spread butter on the toast
Get frozen bags of veggies like the California mix and stirfry combo and frozen chicken tenderloins. Saute thawed chicken pieces in a skillet with nonstick spray, add veggies, and saute a little longer. Serve on tortillas with salsa and cheese or over rice.
I also like to cook about 1 cup of rice in 1 can of chili (until the rice is cooked completely-- about 15 minutes). Use this rice and chili filling on tortillas, top with shredded Mexican, cheddar, or Monterey Jack cheese and salsa if desired. Roll up tortillas and reheat in the microwave real quick if needed, but the burritos usually stay hot if you work fast enough.
Frozen meatballs heated on the stove in some barbeque or marinara sauce. Toast bread or a bun and top with hot meatballs, sauce from heating the meatballs, and some shredded mozzarella for a delicious meatball sub or sandwich.
You can also use leftover sauteed chicken pieces in quesadillas made on the stove top or just in the microwave. Top a tortilla with salsas, chicken, cheese, favorites veggies, bacon, etc. and top with another tortilla. Microwave or cook in a greased skillet over medium heat.
Make some homemade tortillas and buy a pack of pinto beans, cook them, add some chopped onions and spices...wha-la! A cheap and protein-filled meal!
Here is the tortilla recipe...the only one I use :)
8 陆 cup all purpose flour or half white and half whole-wheat
2/3 cup dry milk
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup (butter flavored) shortening
In large bowl, combine the flour, milk powder, baking powder and salt. With pastry blender; cut in shortening until crumbly. Store in an airtight container in a cool dry place for up to 6 months.
TO PREPARE TORTILLAS:
In a bowl, combine 2 陆 cups mix with 戮 cup water. Stir with a fork until mixture forms a ball, adding more or less water if necessary. Turn dough onto a lightly floured surface. Knead 6 - 8 times until smooth and combined. Take a section of the dough and roll into a ball and then flatten it on a floured surface. Cook it on a non-stick skillet; about 25 seconds for each side or until bubbles start to form and lightly brown.
Store them in a zip-lock back in the fridge for about a week, more or less.
