Does anyone have cheap recipes, under $5 or around that?

I don't use wic or food stamps so the cheapest in the supermarket is generally what I go for. I don't want to have to sacrifice taste for being cheap. I need to make enough for two or make enough for leftover lunches.

Also we don't eat beef.Does anyone have cheap recipes, under $5 or around that?
I hate to recycle comments, but I think this suggestion I made to another also fits your situation. I hope you like turkey!

A whole turkey is your best bet, especially when they're on sale (New Years, Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas). First you roast it and stuff it (buy day old cheap bread), then strip all the meat off for sandwiches, tacos, wraps, pasta sauces (you imagination is the limit). Freeze in baggies for week to week meals. Then take the carcass and boil it up with celery, carrot and onion, salt and pepper and you have stock for a big pot of soup. It is the all time cheap way to eat as you can get a turkey for about $20.00 that can provide 2-3 weeks worth of meals (as long as you like turkey!).

Tacos - replace hamburger with turkey, prepare as usual

Pasta sauce - Sautee an onion, celery (whatever veggie is on sale), throw in turkey and a plain pasta sauce.

Cream sauce - sautee and onion, celery and mushrooms, throw in turkey, rosemary, salt pepper, milk, thicken with flour.

Sloppy joes - save turkey drippings and make gravy. Use the little bits of meat that fall apart, mix with gravy and a bit of BBQ sauce, serve on a bun.

Soup - take your stock and throw in what you have - veggies, pasta, rice, whatever is on sale. You can't go wrong with home made soup!!

I hope this helps. I have had to live on a tight budget too and I found you can make so many things with a whole turkey. If you need any more ideas, put up another post and I'll dig out some recipies! Best of luck!!Does anyone have cheap recipes, under $5 or around that?
Spaghetti or any Pasta and Sauce, heck you'd even have enough left over for a French Loaf and leftovers
The internet is filled with recipes for free. Try google search.
grilled cheese sandwiches
salad
That's tough, but I've got one for ya. Buy a 1.5lbs chicken breast (~$3.00) and a box of uncle ben's wild rice ($1.50) and throw in a can of generic corn (%26lt;$1) and you've got yourself a nice healthy meal. Grill, bake or broil the chicken and serve it on top of the rice with the corn on the side.

It even has boxes for what you do and don't want in recipes, so you can find how to use what you already have in the house. Good luck!
I understand your predicament! I am a poor college student but I adore cooking! I like to make this a lot because it is tasty and pretty reasonable:

Get a whole chicken. It costs only a couple dollars. Take the skin off of the chicken. Rub with salt and pepper and cook at 425 for about 15 minutes. Then lower the heat to 375 and cook for an additional 15 minutes. Cut an orange and a lemon into 8 pieces each. Put half inside the chicken. Make a rub out of what you have in your house: a little oil, bread crumbs, some seasoning ( garlice, salt/pepper, rosemary..etc...) Squeeze the remaining orange and lemon over the chicken and cook until the juices run clear. The chicken is flavorful and juicy! Most of these ingredients you already have in your house or are very cheap. I'd say you could make this for under 10 dollars.

Another thing I like to do when I am running low on cash is to make breakfast for dinner. Its kinda fun. Make pancakes or make a nice spinach and turkey omelet. Eggs are under a dollar. A bag or spinach is about 2 dollars. Some turkey lunch meat can run about 2 dollars. Put a little spice in there and BAM, You have a nice, healthy omelet that can feed several for under five dollars.

Just get creative. Use what you have! That's what I do. ALL. THE. TIME. :)
