Hello, I love to cook but, I find that recipes that are meant to be ';money saving'; in magazines and books always end with you having to buy a tub of cream etc that you will not use again. Sometimes you can't even make it bulk and freeze it.
So, I am looking for ideas for cheap and lovely meals that I can make for my family.
Can you help?
We have fallen into the routine of having ';nights'; like toad in the hole, mince pie, grilled chicken with salad, pasta with roasted vegetables etc. Lamb chops or a chicken dinner.
So I could do with some extra suggestionsCould you please give me your cheap recipes?
I guess it depends on what you usually keep on hand but for us some of the great money savers are these.
Tacos (we are hunters and make our own ground venison or elk to use all year) I keep a big thing of taco seasoning and all the veggies and cheese on hand at all times. We also seem to always have whole wheat tortillas so it never costs me anything extra.
Chicken pot pie- for this I just use a cream of something soup, leftover chicken cut into small pieces, a bag of mixed veggies and some cut potatoes. The only thing I have to buy is pillsbury crescent rolls for the crust.
Cola chicken- my family loves this and you can find the recipe on allrecipe.com.
Chicken or steak stir fry- I make this with a frozen bag of stir fry veggies, less then $4 at the store. I add my own meat, sauce and rice.
The cheapest thing that I make though is soup from any leftover meat and veggies we have and a can or two of chicken or beff broth.
I hope my family favorites helped some.Could you please give me your cheap recipes?
Here's something different, Llapingachos or cheese stuffed potato cakes, don't be scared, it's really good and pretty cheap, serve it with fried eggs.

Maybe do a 'do it yourself' taco night, with seasoned ground beef, tortillas or taco shells, and all the fixins that you like
Eggplant Parmesan, for a little variation on pasta
Sliders: mini hamburgers served on dinner rolls
red beans and rice, and with the left overs you could turn it into soup later in the week i know your family might be sick of ham and turkey but buying one and cooking it up makes endless meals plus sandwiches pancakes and sausage is good large baked potato stuffed with pretty much anything you have on hand
MEATBALLS.
you can alwas make them in bulk and freeze them.
try oven broiled meatballs for a healthier alternative.
also soup is good for freezing
suggestion.
-creamed peas
-carrots%26amp;sweet potatoes.%26lt;--add smoked paprika for a nicer flavor.
-squash,
-fish risotto.
';a little tricky to master but worth it';
try chicken beef or soy bacon instead of pork.
steam cook them instead if frying and than put them in an air tight container in the fridge.
they're great for sandwiches or home made hot pockets
